Final Project Proposal

Final Project Proposal
My final project will be a United States map of Men and Women between the ages of 15-18 who competed and placed for the USA Swimming 2008 Winter Nationals, short course yards. Winter Nationals is the most important swim meet for USA Swim Clubs and their swimmers. College Coaches look to recruit swimmers between the ages 15-18 because they are graduating from high school or looking at colleges. Winter Nationals is in short course yards, which is the standard competition length for most colleges. Therefore, these times are crucial for recruitment and scholarships.
This idea comes from my past experiences as a competitive swimmer. I swam in high school and on my local Swim Club. I was a very talented swimmer, qualifying for Junior Olympics, Summer and Winter Nationals, and Zones. These were extremely competitive swim meets consisting of some of the most talented swimmers in the nation. I wanted to swim in college, especially for GMU, so Winter Nationals was a critical point in my swimming career. Unfortunately, I injured my shoulders at the beginning of my senior year in high school, and was not eligible to swim in college. No coach wants an injured swimmer.
I have already looked at the USA Swimming website, http://www.usaswimming.org/. I have more than enough information and data to make a map. I’m not sure what mapping style I will use because I’m using two sets of data, men and women. I guess I’ll figure it out!
